Lydia Lucas is the lead instructor of North Shore Beatz. Having earned an undergraduate degree in music from Salem State University and a master’s degree from the Longy School of Music of Bard College in Cambridge, Lydia is excited to return “home” to share her musical knowledge with the next generation of percussion rock-stars!

As fully vaccinated instructors, we firmly believe in keeping kids safe! Masks will be worn and 3 feet of distancing will be maintained throughout the classes!

Percussion Party Every Sunday!

North Shore Beatz is a music program for kids in K-8th grade that utilizes percussion instruments such as the snare drum, marimba, xylophone, djembe, drum set, and bucket drums to develop music appreciation, learn the basics of note-reading, rhythm, music theory, listening skills, ensemble skills, improvisation, and percussion technique.

Percussion instruments are great to learn these musical qualities because of the practicality of their physical design. The snare drum is one of the most important percussion instruments that is played with two drum sticks! It is used in rock bands as well as orchestras and marching bands! The glockenspiel, xylophone, and marimba are constructed with bars that are set up in the same order as a piano. Unlike a piano, these instruments are mostly lightweight and portable!
